Having forged successful independent careers, renowned Canadian Blues-Rocker Paul DesLauriers and acclaimed American Soul-Blues singer Annika Chambers have teamed up (in more ways than one) and put together a batch of covers and three originals on a new release entitled Good Trouble.

On the remake side, the choices range from the more recognizable Mississippi Queen and Walk a Mile In My Shoes to the more obscure Need your Love So Bad and Money’s Funny. Others like Heavy Load provides a great slide riff but the song is driven by a powerful vocal delivery from Chambers, emoting the pain the lyrics are expressing. DesLauriers gives I Need More Power a Stranglehold feel before giving the fretboard a full workout. All are done with enough ‘Paulannika’ flair to make the tunes their own.

The three originals are actually the stand outs on the release. You’ve Got To Believe kicks off the album with a little drum pattern and a bit of Celtic sounding mandolin setting the background for Chambers to let it rip. Stand Up starts off with a signature DesLauriers riff quickly followed up by Chambers melodic delivery. I’m Going To Live The Life I Sing About In My Song has Chambers delivering that Texas growl like only she can.

Pair up a chilled Canadian boy with a flaming Texan and you get yourself some Good Trouble.

Slainte,
Sean
